The most common gift a woman can receive is flowers. They come in different shapes and sizes, but they are all, without a doubt, magnificent, and we love to keep them as long as possible. It is a shame that such a beautiful thing can fade away within a few days. That’s why we’d like to try and keep them as long as possible, as they can brighten any room they are placed in. Here are some tips and tricks to make your flowers last longer:
- Sugar and vinegar: sugar nourishes the flowers, and vinegar inhibits the growth of bacteria. Dissolve 3 tablespoons of sugar and 2 tablespoons of vinegar per ¼ liter.
- Bleach: just add a couple of drops per ¼ liter. Bleach in known to prevent the growth of bacteria, as you may already know.
- Aspirin: crush an aspirin and add it to the water. The salicylic acid in the aspirin will help keep the water clean and free of flower-damaging bacteria.
- Vodka: add a few drops to the water. Vodka, like any clear spirit, can be used in this case as an antibacterial. Add sugar for optimal results.
- Hairspray: it can make your flowers look fresh. Spray just a little on the sides, without getting too close.
- 7-up or Sprite: mix ¼ of a cup of soda with water. The sugar in the soda will help the flowers last longer.
- It is very important not to overuse any of the products mentioned above, as it will harm the flowers.
- Always remember to change the water on a daily basis, to keep it fresh and clean.
- Keep the flowers away from appliances like TV and computer, the heat will harm them.
- Trim the stems regularly in a diagonal way (about 45°), as it helps flowers to absorb more water.
